5 Things I’m looking forward to this Summer

Happy Friday Everybody

I hope your week went well, and the weekend to come is even better. I thought I’d check back in for a little life update and a few reasons why I’m excited for this summer. I have some really cool stuff coming up over the next couple of months, both career and personal wise, so I thought I’d share it with you guys here on the blog.

The biggest news I have at the moment is that I will be starting an internship with The Daily Mail newspaper in Dublin next month. I’ve been sitting on this news for a while, because I wanted to get some stuff sorted out and also notify my work that I’ll be leaving, before saying anything. I handed in my notice this week and I literally could not stop smiling. Even though I’ve known for a couple of weeks now that I’d gotten the internship and would be leaving, the excitement only really hit me once I’d gotten that out of the way. I’ve worked there part-time throughout my Masters, but it’s time to move on, and I cannot wait until the end of the month. Then it’s off to Dublin, where I will be starting with The Mail in the first week of June. I’m in that weird zone somewhere between incredibly excited and slightly anxious about the move. But I just know this is such a huge opportunity and I’m planning on putting my all into it. It’s funny how things turn out. If you had told me this time last year that I’d have completed a Masters and secured an internship with a national newspaper, I’d have laughed my head off and never believed it. So, it just goes to show that you never know how things are going to pan out.

As well as starting at the newspaper, I’m also looking forward to getting the chance to live in and explore Dublin. There is always so much to see and do up there, and if you’re a fan of big city living, there is really nowhere else in Ireland like it. I was thinking earlier this week that although I’ve been on holidays both home and abroad down through the years, I’ve never actually lived anywhere else besides Galway. Galway will always be my home, and I’ll always love it, but at this point in my life, I’m excited to leave it. Plus, I want to work on building up the blog more, and I think Dublin will be a great place to get the creative juices going. So, I’m planning on sharing my adventures there and beyond over the next few months, so stay tuned.

Also, I can’t wait until August, as myself and a few of the gang have bought tickets to Castlepalooza. For those of you that may not know, Castlepalooza is a music and arts festival that is held at the beautiful 17th century Charleville Castle in Tullamore each year. My friends Ashleigh and Kevin went last year and had a ball, so a few more of us are jumping on the bandwagon this year and heading along with them. Down through the years, I’ve never really managed to get into the festival season. It always seemed like I had to work, or had something else on, or just simply didn’t have the money, so I can’t wait to go to this in August. So rather than over-thinking it, we just decided to book the tickets and do it. I know it seems like it’s really far off, but at the rate this year is going, it will be upon us before we know it.

Wedding, Wedding Ring

After that then, I have my good friend Michelle’s wedding in September to look forward to. We’ve been friends since we were in secondary school together–it’s so hard to believe that it is almost ten years since we were there–and though we don’t always get to see each other due to college, work and life commitments, we always keep in touch and meet for a catch up when we can. I have to admit, it is so surreal to think that she is getting married. Remember when you were in school and caught up in that teenage bubble to the point where the thoughts of being an adult and doing grownup things was like living in another life? But I couldn’t be happier for her, and we are sure to have a great day out in September.

Another thing I’m looking to do over the next while is a wardrobe clear out. With an internship, festival, and wedding coming up, I’m in need of some new threads for each. And just new threads in general really. I want to develop my own sense of style if I can; something that really represents me.

So, those are just a few of the things coming up that I’m looking ahead to over the next few months. Make sure to stay tuned here on the blog, where I’ll be sharing it all and more with you guys. Also, keep in touch on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Oh, and I’m also on Snapchat (@thejournalsofaj) if you fancy adding me on there. I’ll be the first to admit, I haven’t quite found my rhythm yet with Snapchat, but I’ll definitely be working on it over the next while.

Bought the quirky notebook above at the weekend for a fiver in Easons. Think it has a message to live by.

Have a great weekend all ✌🏻

  1. You may be ready for Dublin Steve but is Dublin ready for YOU. Well l hope it all works out well for you up there. It will be a culture shock to you after your long nights of entertaining down in Fallons. Anyway I’m sure Eoin will give you some valuable brotherly advice on how to survive in the Capital. By the way bring back the notebook and get your fiver back. By the time you finish the hard work you’ll have no energy left to play. Oh to be young again!
